With the rapid popularization of IoT application scenarios such as smart homes, how to maintain network stability and reliability under large-scale device access has become a key concern for developers and enterprises.
Recently, Espressif Systems officially released a Thread network performance test report, which verifies the performance and usability of its Thread network solutions in actual deployments for typical large-scale networking and long-distance multi-hop communication scenarios, providing reliable data support for IoT applications.

This test focuses on two typical and representative networking scenarios:
– 300-node mesh topology: Simulates densely deployed large-scale smart terminals to form a stable self-healing network through mesh connections.
– 10-hop linear topology: Verifies network stability and data transmission performance during long-link, multi-node continuous forwarding.
Through these two test scenarios, the scalability and forwarding capabilities of Thread networks in complex environments were comprehensively evaluated, closely resembling real-world usage scenarios such as smart homes and building automation.
The test focused on the following metrics:
– Latency: The network’s response speed under multi-node, long-distance forwarding.
– Throughput: The network’s data transmission capability under high-load communication.
– Packet loss rate: A critical measure of stability, especially in multi-hop forwarding scenarios.
– Large-scale network stability: Verifies whether the network can maintain consistent and reliable connection quality as the number of nodes increases.
The test results show that Espressif’s Thread network solutions demonstrated consistent and reliable performance across all test scenarios:
– In the 300-node mesh topology, the network showed good stability and connection consistency, meeting the needs of large-scale IoT deployments.
– In the 10-hop linear topology, data forwarding latency and packet loss control performed excellently, fully verifying usability over multi-hop links.
– Additionally, the ESP Thread Border Router has been tested and validated to support simultaneous connection of over 300 devices to the cloud, providing a solid network foundation for actual deployment.
This Thread network performance test further validates the scalability and high reliability of Espressif’s Thread network solutions in IoT scenarios, helping developers build future-oriented, flexible, and stable wireless connection networks.
